Limited research exists on the relationship between aesthetic saut de chat performance and muscle-tendon unit (MTU) characteristics of dancers. We developed a weighted parameter ranking (WPR) tool to incorporate aesthetic leaping aspects (i.e., height, peak split angle, average trunk angle and trunk angle range) for correlation with MTU properties. The purpose was to identify the relationship of saut de chat WPR and leap height with maximal plantarflexion strength, medial gastrocnemius (MG) stiffness, Achilles tendon (AT) stiffness and relative peak power (PP). Dancers (n = 18) performed maximal plantarflexion, short-range stretches and isometric ramping contractions on a dynamometer equipped with ultrasound to determine strength, MG stiffness and AT stiffness, respectively. Subjects then performed saut de chat leaps atop force platforms surrounded by motion capture cameras. A principal component analysis (PCA) was performed to compare WPR variable weightings with PCA results and rankings. Moderate-strong relationships were identified among WPR, maximal plantarflexion strength, MG stiffness and PP. Strong-very strong relationships were also identified between leap height and maximal plantarflexion strength, MG stiffness, AT stiffness, peak split angle and PP. A very strong correlation existed between PCA rankings and WPRs. Practitioners may consider developing strength and power capabilities in dancers to improve leaping.We evaluated the efficacy of Tribulus terrestris in two different dosage regimes for the treatment of sexual dysfunction in pre and postmenopausal women and its effect on the vascular resistance of the clitoral artery using Power Doppler. A total of 104 women were randomly assigned to receive 94mg, three times/day (TT3) or 280mg once/day for 90 days (TT1). Evaluation was performed using FSFI and QS-F questionnaires, serum levels of prolactin, TSH, total testosterone and SHBG, and clitoral artery assessment with Power Doppler ultrasound. FSFI results demonstrated an improvement in all domains in both groups (P  less then  0.05) except for the "Satisfaction" in the TT3 premenopausal group. QS-F results showed a significant improvement in the mean total score in women of both reproductive phases, for both groups. Postmenopausal patients improved in all sexual domains, except for "orgasm" in the TT1 group. PI of the clitoral artery showed no difference in both reproductive phases, in both groups. The objective of this study is to evaluate short and long-term efficacy of intramuscular aqueous dimethyl trisulfide (DMTS) on survival and clinical outcomes in a swine model of cyanide exposure. Anesthetized swine were instrumented and acclimated until breathing spontaneously. Potassium cyanide infusion was initiated and continued until 5 min after the onset of apnea. Subsequently, animals were treated with intramuscular DMTS (  = 11) or saline control (  = 10). Laboratory values and DMTS blood concentrations were assessed at various time points and physiological parameters were monitored continuously until the end of the experiment unless death occurred. A subset of animals treated with DMTS (  = 5) were survived for 7 days to evaluate muscle integrity by repeat biopsy and neurobehavioral outcomes. In cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for social anxiety disorder (SAD), avoidance behavior (AB) and cognitions (COG) are two important targets of intervention, but so far no studies have directly examined their relative importance. By means of cross-lagged panel models (CLPM), we examined their temporal associations and impacts on outcome in clients with symptoms of SAD while addressing typical methodological challenges. We used data from the first six therapy sessions in a sample of 428 primary care clients (mean [SD] age = 34.6 [12.2], 34.3% men), participating in the Prompt Mental Health Care trial. Session-by-session data was collected on AB, COG, depression and general anxiety. Competing multiple indicator CLPMs were tested. The Random Intercept-CLPM provided best fit, and indicated that AB predicted COG at subsequent time points (.39 ≤    ≤ .42 for T2-T5,   < .05), but not vice versa. In addition, AB, but not COG, predicted clients' general anxiety score at subsequent time points. Results were both robust to the inclusion of depressive symptoms as a within-level covariate, and sensitivity tests for stationarity and missing data assumptions. Targeting avoidance behavior for primary care clients with symptoms of SAD may be more vital for the optimal effect of CBT than targeting cognitions. This approach enabled the authors to successfully treat VHs of uncertain aetiology with cholinesterase inhibitors because the content of the hallucinations suggested dysfunction in cholinergic modulated networks.Methods We utilise the single case report to describe the nature and content of chronic VHs experienced by a 49-year-old woman following a prolonged admission to ITU. Despite extensive investigation, no clear cause was identified for these hallucinations and the patient did not respond to rationalisation of medications or trials of antipsychotics. We therefore adopted the neurophenomenological approach to classifying and treating her VHs.Results After several years of distressing visual hallucinations, a course of Rivastigmine was trialed despite no evidence suggestive of a Parkinsonian syndrome. Nevertheless, the patient reported a dose-effect response with significant reduction in the frequency and intensity of her hallucinations, almost to complete resolution.
