The administration of CMT-8 in healthy dogs did not affect blood mRNA expression of IFN-γ, TNFα, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, IL-12 p40 and IL-13. However, the lymphocytes expressing class II MHC on their surface decreased during the first two weeks of CMT-8 treatment and subsequently increased for the next three months. Considering the absence of antimicrobial properties of the drug, the effects of CMT-8 detected in this study seem to be unrelated to the classical antimicrobial activity attributed to tetracyclines.Parasites, including helminths and protists, are pathogens responsible for waterborne and foodborne illnesses in both developed and developing countries. Their global incidence is difficult to estimate, but the World Health Organization (WHO) has indicated the global disease burden of 11 waterborne and foodborne parasitic diseases, is responsible for causing over 407 million illnesses resulting in an estimated of 94 K deaths and 11 million disability-adjusted life years (DALYs). Nevertheless, compared with bacteria and viruses, parasites are often overlooked as etiological agents of foodborne or waterborne disease; this is due to a variety of reasons, including the difficulty of their identification in environmental matrices and because many have a prolonged period between infection and symptoms, making it difficult to implicate infection vehicles. This Special Issue comprises 17 articles that include the more significant waterborne and foodborne parasites of zoonotic importance due to their relevance, with all groups of parasites (protist, cestodes, trematodes, and nematodes) being represented. Each chapter covers relevant aspects regarding -the importance of the parasite in food and water, including an overview of outbreaks where relevant, information on fundamental epidemiological aspects such as transmission, lifecycle and host range, clinical aspects such as pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment, a summary of prospects for control in water or the food chain, and, finally, providing the authors' opinions regarding future research or studies required to improve control of transmission to people via food or water.Thiouracil (TU) is a representative of a group of thyreostatics, orally active drugs that can be used to increase the weight of cattle before slaughter. The use of thyreostats in animal production has been banned in the European Union since 1981. Systematic detection of low concentrations of thiouracil in the urine of livestock is acknowledged to be of endogenous origin due to the use of Brassicaceae plants in the animal diet. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of diet enriched with rapeseed meal on endogenous thiouracil contents in urine of calves. Two groups of calves of different age were subjected to a rapeseed-supplemented diet. First group (n = 6, 6 months) received a maximum authorized content of rapeseed meal (30%) in diet, second (n = 2, 2 months) after adaptation to solid food and rapeseed, has been subjected to a diet exceeding the maximum recommended dose of rapeseed of 10%. During the experiments, samples of urine and faeces were collected and analyzed by using the accredited LC-MS/MS method. The diet with allowed content of rapeseed did not influenced on concentration of endogenous thiouracil in calves' urine ( less then CCα - 3.11 μg/L), while exceeding the permitted dose caused a significant increase in thiouracil in urine of younger animals (1.55-20.95 μg/L) and there may be a reason for non-compliant results. The higher levels of endogenous thiouracil observed in young calves results from exceeding the recommended dose of rapeseed in diet as well as from intensive feeding of animals during growth.Medial meniscus posterior root tears (MMPRT) can lead to meniscal extrusion, loss of hoop tension, loss of load-sharing ability and increased contact pressure. Currently, the most commonly used technique for root repair is arthroscopic transtibial pullout repair (ATPR). This article aims to illustrate both normal and abnormal postoperative imaging findings of the MMPRT repair performed with ATPR, with emphasis on MRI. The radiologist must highlight the tunnel position, the reduction of the medial meniscus posterior root to its anatomical attachment, the signs of root healing (continuity and lower signal intensity), and eventual meniscal extrusion or signs of osteoarthritis.As the COVID-19 pandemic impacts global populations, computed tomography (CT) lung imaging is being used in many countries to help manage patient care as well as to rapidly identify potentially useful quantitative COVID-19 CT imaging biomarkers. Quantitative COVID-19 CT imaging applications, typically based on computer vision modeling and artificial intelligence algorithms, include the potential for better methods to assess COVID-19 extent and severity, assist with differential diagnosis of COVID-19 versus other respiratory conditions, and predict disease trajectory. To help accelerate the development of robust quantitative imaging algorithms and tools, it is critical that CT imaging is obtained following best practices of the quantitative lung CT imaging community. Toward this end, the Radiological Society of North America's (RSNA) Quantitative Imaging Biomarkers Alliance (QIBA) CT Lung Density Profile Committee and CT Small Lung Nodule Profile Committee developed a set of best practices to guide clinical sites using quantitative imaging solutions and to accelerate the international development of quantitative CT algorithms for COVID-19. A wide variety of tumors that arise in the scalp include neoplasms, hamartomas, malformations, and both benign and malignant cysts. Most scalp tumors are benign (98-99%) with only an estimated 1-2% of diagnosed cases reported as being malignant. Of these, adnexal carcinoma is reported in less than 1% of cases. Herein, we report a 65-year-old woman who presented with pain and numbness in her hands with past medical history significant only for a chronic posterior head mass that had never received workup. Computerized topography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and local biopsy demonstrated a large, pedunculated malignant occipital mass that had metastasized to the orbital walls and cervical spine. To our knowledge, this is the largest sebaceous carcinoma to be reported occurring in the scalp. The present case emphasizes the need for older patients with benign scalp lesions to be closely monitored with frequent CT scans for signs of malignant transformation.
