The multi-channel detection scheme with 15 microchannel plate (MCP) detectors enables simultaneously accumulating time-of-flight spectra over a wide range of scattering angles (112°). The efficiency of data acquisition has been enhanced by an order of magnitude. The angular distribution of H atoms from photodissociation of CH4 at 121.6 nm was used for calibrating the detection efficiency of different MCP detectors. The differential cross section of the reaction F + H2 → HF + H at the collision of 6.9 meV was measured, demonstrating the feasibility and accuracy of this multi-channel detection method. This apparatus could be a powerful tool for investigating the dynamics of reactions at very low collision energy.A proof-of-principle CR-39 based neutron-recoil-spectrometer was built and fielded on the Z facility. Data from this experiment match indium activation yields within a factor of 2 using simplified instrument response function models. The data also demonstrate the need for neutron shielding in order to infer liner areal densities. A new shielded design has been developed. The spectrometer is expected to achieve signal-to-background greater than 2 for the down-scattered neutron signal and greater than 30 for the primary signal.A resistively-heated dynamic diamond anvil cell (RHdDAC) setup is presented. The setup enables the dynamic compression of samples at high temperatures by employing a piezoelectric actuator for pressure control and internal heaters for high temperature. The RHdDAC facilitates the precise control of compression rates and was tested in compression experiments at temperatures up to 1400 K and pressures of ∼130 GPa. The mechanical stability of metallic glass gaskets composed of a FeSiB alloy was examined under simultaneous high-pressure/high-temperature conditions. Hig
