Thus, it may manifest as nephrotic-range low-molecular-weight proteinuria (LMWP). On the other hand, glomerular proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, and edema formation are the key features of nephrotic syndrome that rarely found in Dent's disease. Here, we reported a man in his 30 s with Dent's disease presented with leg edema for 5 days. The laboratory results revealed hypoalbuminemia and a decrease of urine β2-microglobulin/urine protein ratio (Uβ2-MG /UP), indicating that the primary origin of proteinuria shifted from LMWP to glomerular proteins. The kidney biopsy revealed glomerular abnormality and calcium deposition in the renal medulla. Electron microscopy of the kidney tissue indicated extensive foot-process effacement of the glomerular podocytes and degeneration of tubular epithelium. After a combination of treatment with prednisolone and cyclosporine (CyA), the nephrotic syndrome was remitted. Given the atypical clinical presentation and the shift of LMWP to glomerular proteinuria in this patient, glomerulopathy and the Dent's disease existed separately in this patient.The Hantaan virus (HTNV) and Seoul virus (SEOV) mutants have accumulated over time. It is important to determine whether their neutralizing epitopes have evolved, thereby making the current vaccine powerless. However, it is impossible to determine by using traditional plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT), because it requires large numbers of live mutant strains. Pseudovirus-based neutralization assays (PBNA) were developed by employing vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) backbone incorporated with HTNV or SEOV glycoproteins (VSVΔG*-HTNVG or VSVΔG*-SEOVG). 56 and 51 single amino acid substitutions of glycoprotein (GP) in HTNV and SEOV were selected and introduced into the reference plasmid. Then the mutant pseudoviruses were generated and tested by PBNA. The PBNA results were highly correlated with PRNT ones with R2 being 0.91 for VSVΔG*-HTNVG and 0.82 for VSVΔG*-SEOVG. 53 HTNV mutant pseudoviruses and 46 SEOV mutants were successfully generated. Importantly, by using PBNA, we found that HTNV or SEOV immunized antisera could neutralize all the corresponding 53 HTNV mutants or the 46 SEOV mutants respectively. And the current vaccine remains to be effective for the naturally occurring mutants.This study assessed the cross-sectional associations between organizational religious activity (ORA), intrinsic religiosity (IR), and hypertension in a US nationally representative sample. Data were from Wave IV of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health, collected in 2008. The sample (N = 5115, Mage = 28.96 years, 54% female) was divided into three sexual orientation categories heterosexual, mostly heterosexual, and sexual minority. Dependent variables were systolic and diastolic blood pressure and binary cut-scores of clinical hypertension. ORA and IR were independent variables, with sexual orientation as the moderator. Multivariable analyses revealed greater ORA was associated with increased blood pressure (BP)/hypertension for the sexual minority group. There was a trend in the heterosexual group where ORA was associated with decreased BP. Generally, ORA was not associated with BP/hypertension in the mostly heterosexual group. There were no significant effects for IR. Future research should continue to examine the complex ways ORA and IR are associated with health based on sexual orientation and use longitudinal methodology to examine how ORA may impact BP/hypertension across the lifespan.Background The dementia subtype idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) has unknown etiology, but one characteristic is elevated intracranial pressure (ICP) wave amplitudes in those individuals who respond with clinical improvement following cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) diversion. To explore the mechanisms behind altered ICP wave amplitudes, we correlated central aortic blood pressure (BP) and ICP waveform amplitudes (intracranial aortic amplitude correlation) and examined how this correlation relates to ICP wave amplitude levels and systemic hemodynamic parameters. Methods The study included 29 patients with probable iNPH who underwent continuous multi-hour measurement of ICP, radial artery BP, and systemic hemodynamic parameters. The radial artery BP waveforms were used to estimate central aortic BP waveforms, and the intracranial aortic amplitude correlation was determined over consecutive 4-min periods. However, the optimal drug regimen is yet to be elucidated. Methods A retrospective review of patients with aSAH and cerebral vasospasm treated with IA vasodilator infusion was performed. Patients in group 1 (2008-2011) were treated with a single agent, either nicardipine or verapamil, and patients in group 2 (2010-2016) were treated with a regimen of nitroglycerin, verapamil, and nicardipine. The post-infusion improvement ratio (PIIR) was compared between groups. Adjusted multivariate logistic regression models were utilized to determine whether patients treated with multiple vasodilators had an improved functional outcome, defined by the modified Rankin Scale, at discharge and 90-day follow-up.
