These results are of biotechnological interest because C. sorokiniana is widely used in many different areas, including photosynthesis research, human pharmaceutical production, aquaculture-based food production, and wastewater treatment.Purpose The Kyleena® Satisfaction Study (KYSS) is a prospective, observational study conducted to assess satisfaction with LNG-IUS 12 (Kyleena®) in clinical practice and aims to provide adequate information for counselling women on what to expect regarding insertion and satisfaction.Materials and methods Women deciding to use LNG-IUS 12 during routine counselling were informed of the study and provided informed consent. A baseline analysis was conducted to evaluate demographics, ease of insertion assessed by investigators, pain at insertion rated by women, additional interventions for insertion, and adverse events.Results 1,110 women (536 parous, 574 nulliparous) had an insertion attempt and were included. Insertion was rated as easy in 494 (92.2%) parous and 516 (89.9%) nulliparous women. Pain was assessed as none or mild by 475 (88.6%) parous and 387 (67.4%) nulliparous women. Additional interventions were not required for most insertions (705; 63.6%). Overall 111 (10.0%) women reported adverse events at the time of baseline analysis.Conclusions This analysis demonstrates that LNG-IUS 12 insertion is easy and associated with no or mild pain in most women. Additional interventions for insertion are not required in most cases. After 3 months, the number of adverse events is low.Implications The present baseline analysis of the Kyleena® Satisfaction Study (KYSS) demonstrates that most women rate insertion pain of LNG-IUS 12 as none or mild and clinicians consider insertion easy in the majority of cases.Introduction Acute bacterial skin and skin-structure infections (ABSSSI) are a subgroup of skin and soft tissue infections and are a common source of morbidity in both the community and the hospital setting. The most common cause of ABSSSI is Staphylococcus aureus, which also includes methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), together with beta-hemolytic streptococci, enterococci, and Gram-negative bacteria. Since the emergence of MRSA, the management of ABSSSI has become more challenging. Novel therapies alternative to teicoplanin and vancomycin, intravenous agents commonly used against MRSA and employed in hospitalized patients, and to other antibiotics which are used as standard of care for MRSA infection, with a higher efficacy and safer profile are worth evaluating.Areas covered This review presents and discusses current evidence on the use of dalbavancin in the treatment of ABSSSI.Expert opinion Dalbavancin represents a promising therapeutic choice in patients with ABSSSI, thanks to its favorable pharmacokinetic profile, valuable antimicrobial spectrum, and good safety profile.Natural killer (NK) cells play an important role in anti-tumor and anti-infection, and perform their immune surveillance function in various ways. However, no matter what kind of cancer, the functional activity of NK cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) is suppressed. Understanding the relationship between tumor cells and NK cells is very critical for tumor immunotherapy. This review discusses the mechanism of tumor cells escaping the immune surveillance of NK cells. These include a variety of factors that inhibit the activity of NK cells, an imbalance of activating receptors and inhibiting receptors on NK cells, abnormal binding of receptors and ligands, cross-talk of surrounding cell groups and NK cells in the TME, and other factors that affect NK cell activity. An understanding of these factors is necessary to provide new treatment strategies for tumor immunotherapy.Vitamin D improves bone density and latest studies show adherence to Med-Diet as protective on osteoporosis. This observational study aimed at investigating the relationship between 25(OH)D levels and adherence to Med-Diet. Body weight, BMI, WC, glucose, insulin, 25(OH)D, total cholesterol, high- and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, uric acid, and creatinine serum levels and insulin resistance were determined in 284 overweight/obese subjects not taking medications or supplements. Adherence to Med-Diet was evaluated by using PREDIMED score. Positive effects of drug β-d-mannuronic acid (M2000) were proven on their expression in the HEK-Blue hTLR2 cell line, and results of its phase III clinical trial on RA patients were encouraging.Objective This research aimed to investigate the effects of M2000 on expression of these genes and serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-α as pro-inflammatory cytokines in RA patients.Material and methods In this study (Trial Registration Number IRCT2017100213739N10), 12 RA patients (according to the American College of Rheumatology criteria) and 12 healthy subjects (as control group) were selected. The gene expression of miR-146a, IRAK1, TRAF6, and NF-κB were measured at the baseline and after 12 weeks M2000 therapy, using quantitative real-time PCR method. Moreover, the serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-α were evaluated at the similar times by ELISA method.Results Our findings showed that the gene expression of miR-146a, IRAK1, TRAF6, and NF-κB significantly decreased after 12 weeks M2000 therapy in RA patients (0.81-, 0.68-, 0.79-, 0.82-fold, with p  less then  .05, p  less then  .01, p  less then  .01, p  less then  .05, respectively). Furthermore, the serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-α significantly reduced in these patients after 12 weeks M2000 therapy (both with p  less then  .05).Conclusions The present research results determined the part of molecular mechanisms of drug M2000 in RA treatment, based on the expression and function modification of miR-146a, IRAK1, TRAF6, NF-κB, IL-6 and TNF-α.
