Objectives UHRF1 is a multi-domain protein that recognizes both histone and DNA modification marks on chromatin. UHRF1 is involved in various cellular processes that lead to tumorigenesis and thus attracted considerable attention as a potential anti-cancer drug target. The SRA domain is a unique to the UHRF family. SRA domain recognizes 5-methylcytosine in hemimethylated DNA and necessary for maintenance DNA methylation mediated by DNMT1. Small molecules capable of interacting with the SRA domain may reduce aberrant methylation levels by preventing the interaction of 5-methylcytosine with the SRA domain and thereby blocking substrate access to the catalytic center of DNMT1. The data were collected to identify and predict an initial set of small molecules that are expected to bind to the SRA domain. Data description Nearly 2.4 million molecules from various chemical libraries were screened with the SRA domain of UHRF1 using Schrodinger's Small Molecule Drug Discovery Suite. The data is available in the form of a methodology presentation, MS Excel files listing the top hits, and Maestro pose viewer files that provide visualization of how the identified ligands interact with the SRA domain.Background Metronidazole (MNZ) has been clearly established as a medication for amebic liver abscess. In uncomplicated cases, surgical drainage should be avoided. We report a case of amebic liver abscess refractory to MNZ that was successfully treated using preoperative computed tomography (CT) and percutaneous and surgical drainage with intraoperative ultrasonography (IOUS). Case presentation A 53-year-old man with high-grade fever was diagnosed with a cystic lesion on his right hepatic lobe using CT. Percutaneous drainage was performed, and antibacterial drugs were administered. However, the infection and condition of the patient worsened. Entamoeba histolytica was detected from pus within the mediastinal cavity. Hence, the patient was diagnosed with amebic liver abscess. After the diagnosis was established, we administered MNZ for 10 days. Despite this, the patient's physical condition did not improve. Blood tests suggested impending disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). The patient's DIC immediately regressed after surgery. Unfortunately, malnutrition and disuse syndrome contributed to the patient's long recovery period. He was discharged 137 days post-surgery. Conclusions We reported a case of amebic liver abscess refractory to conservative treatment. Surgical drainage with preoperative CT and IOUS allowed us to safely and effectively perform complex abscess decompression.Background Constrained budgets within healthcare systems and the need to efficiently allocate resources often necessitate the valuation of healthcare interventions and services. However, when a technological product is developed for which no market exists it is a challenge to understand how to place the product and which specifications are the most sought after and important for end users. This was the case for a dashboard we developed, displaying analyses of patient experience survey free-text comments. Method We describe a customisation and evaluation process for our online dashboard that addresses this challenge, using a Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE). We were not interested in the exact content of the dashboard, which was determined in previous stages of our larger study, but on the availability of features and customization options and how they affect individuals' purchasing behaviours. Results Our DCE completion rate was 33/152 (22%). Certain features were highly desirable - the search function, filtement. Conclusion DCEs can be successfully used to inform development of an online dashboard by determining preferences for particular features and customisation options and how this affects individuals' purchasing behaviours. The process should be transferable to the development of other technologies.Background Low contraceptive uptake exposes women to unintended pregnancies and often the resultant obstetric complications. The immigrant communities especially from countries with low contraceptive use present a unique challenge. The main objective of the study was to describe modern contraceptive use and associated factors among married Somali women living in Kampala. Methods A community based cross sectional survey was conducted among Somali women living in Kampala from August to November 2016. Using consecutive sampling, 341 respondents were recruited after informed consent. Data was collected using interviewer administered questionnaires on contraceptives use and factors associated. Data was entered in Epidata 3.1 and analyzed using STATA 11.0. Logistic regression analysis was used to determine the factors associated with use of modern contraceptives. Results Majority of the participants were refugees 317/341(94%), with a mean age of 30.4 (±6.7) years and 136/341 (40%) had no formal education. More thanitude of this community towards use of long term contraception is recommended.Background There exists little literature on situational health literacy - that is, how an individual's health literacy varies across different health literacy environments. However, one can consider the role of stress when examining the relationship between health situations and decision-making ability, and by proxy health literacy. The aim of this study was to assess the strength of the evidence on the relationship between health situations and patient stress, considered in the context of health professional perception, and determine what health situations act to influence patient stress. Methods A systematic review of English articles using PubMed, PsycINFO, CINAHL and Embase databases was conducted. Search terms focused on 'patient', 'stress', and 'health care situations'. Only peer-reviewed original research with data on patient stress in the context of a health facility environment was included. Studies were screened and critically appraised by both authors.
